Best Thread Reader Apps in 2026 (Free & Paid Compared)
"Thread reader" covers two quite different jobs. Some tools unroll a single thread so you can read or download it now. Others are read-later apps that collect threads and bookmarks over time. Picking the right one starts with knowing which job you have.
We make SaveFlow, so we're not neutral. We've tried to describe every tool, ours included, by what it actually does and costs. Prices were checked in November 2026 and do change; check each vendor's pricing page before you buy.

Unrollers: read or download one thread now
SaveFlow thread unroller
Paste a link to any post in a thread and the SaveFlow thread unroller lays out every post by the author on one page. You can read it in three themes (Pure, Paper, Onyx), then download a PDF or a Markdown file. It is free with no account, no daily limit and no ads; downloads carry a small "Unrolled with SaveFlow" credit. There is no bot to mention, so nothing is posted from your account.
Good fit if: you want a thread as a file right now and don't want to pay or sign up. Less good if: you want threads to arrive in a reading app automatically; for that, a free SaveFlow account can save threads to a library.
Thread Reader App
The best-known unroller. Reply to a thread with "@threadreaderapp unroll" and it answers with a link to a readable page on its site, which anyone can open for free. PDF download and other extras are part of Premium, at $3/month or $30/year.
Good fit if: you like unrolling from inside X and sharing the resulting link. Less good if: you want a free PDF, or don't want a public reply from your account.
TwitterShots
A tool built around turning X content into files and images, with separate pages for thread to PDF, unrolling and tweet screenshots. The free tier allows 10 threads a day; Pro is $6.99/month.
Good fit if: you also want polished tweet screenshots from the same tool. Less good if: you process more than 10 threads a day and don't want a subscription.
Read-later apps: collect threads over time
Readwise Reader
A full read-later app for articles, newsletters, PDFs and more. You can save a thread from X by mentioning @readwise, and it then sits in Reader with your other saved items, where you can highlight it. Plans start at $7.99/month.
Good fit if: you already highlight heavily and want threads in the same place as everything else. Less good if: you just need one thread as a PDF.
Dewey
A bookmark manager for social media that syncs your X bookmarks so you can search, tag and organise them. Pro is $10/month.
Good fit if: you bookmark a lot on X and can't find anything afterwards. Less good if: your goal is reading or exporting a single thread.
Tweetsmash
Turns your X bookmarks into digests so saved posts resurface instead of piling up. Plans start at $7/month.
Good fit if: you want a regular reminder of what you saved. Less good if: you need a downloadable copy of a thread.
