One Piece Theory: “Weapons shape the world we live in.” ZKK might not have happened, but I believe Oda still has a grand plan for Zoro. The King of Hell. The Grim Reaper. Ryokugyu. Everything leads to the Ancient Weapon: SATURN. Let's go. #onepiece #onepiecetheory
A warning: if you don’t like puns, don’t read on - there’s a big one at the end. And if you don’t like being spoiled, turn back now. I don't think this is a theory many people have spoken about. Lots of things here that might spoil major reveals in Wano and beyond.
Before we proceed, I’d like to share one assumption: the three Ancient Weapons that have been mentioned aren’t the only ones out there. I believe that Nika and even the One Piece are Ancient "Weapons" named after Gods. That'll be separate theories. Let's talk about Saturn. 🪐
Halfway through the War of Onigashima, something completely random happened. Zoro came face to face with the Grim Reaper. This hasn’t been brought up since, the Reaper disappeared and Zoro has woken up, seemingly fine.
I believe that the Grim Reaper actually symbolizes the Roman God of of time, generation, dissolution, abundance, wealth, agriculture, periodic renewal and liberation, Saturn. Let me explain.
The God Saturn wields a scythe; it’s origin is actually from Saturn being the god of harvest - the scythe was used to reap the harvest. As the God of Time, he’s also associated with Death - because the leading cause of death is time itself. Saturn is the original Grim Reaper.
Given that the other Ancient Weapons are named after Roman Gods and planets, it’s not so strange that Saturn might be present in the story. So what else do we know about Saturn?
Saturn is also known as Cronus, in Greek Mythology. One of the things that Cronus/Saturn is famous for is a painting: “Saturn devouring his son”. It’s a fucked-up painting - because Saturn was kind of a fucked-up God.
According to myth, a prophecy foretold that his own children would overcome Saturn. In order to prevent the prophecy from coming through, he ate them as soon as they were born. Now let’s bring this back to Wano.
Many theorists (like @mrmorjman and @333VIL ) have speculated that Ryokugyu (or Green Bull), the mysterious admiral, might be related to Zoro. Check out their videos on it. We know that Ryokugyu is on his way to Wano. Putting together the pieces that we know about Saturn, Ryokugyu and Zoro, I believe that Ryokugyu wields the power of Saturn, and was the one responsible for the Grim Reaper that Zoro encountered.
Just like Cronus, devouring his children, I also believe that the Grim Reaper took something from Zoro that will make Ryokugyu more powerful. After all this while, maybe he’s finally eaten?
This might sound a bit wild, but the Grim Reaper has been associated with the bull before - back in Dressrosa, the Grim Reaper of the Colosseum was the bull that Luffy befriended. Also, we’ve seen Ryokugyu with a flower sprouting out of this back - Saturn is the God of Harvest.
Now - let me share with you the most compelling evidence I found that connects Saturn to Zoro. Warning: this is the pun I was talking about earlier. Zoro has proclaimed that he’s willing to become the King of Hell to help Luffy become Pirate King.
Saturn, in Japanese is Dosei (土星). However, if you romanized ‘Saturn’ you get this: “サターン”. Satān. 😈 The planet's name puns with that of the King of Hell. I believe that the King of Hell that Zoro will become is none other than Saturn/Satan.
In short: Ryokugyu is the current wielder/owner of the Ancient Weapon: Saturn. Just like the God, he has taken something from Zoro, his son/successor, in Onigashima. Zoro's destiny is to overcome Ryokugyu and in doing so, he’ll get the epithet of King of Hell - Saturn/Satan.
With this, the Monster Trio effectively become the underworld trio: Luffy -> Lucy / Lucifer Morningstar Sanji -> Ifrit Zoro -> Saturn / Satan I think that’s pretty badass. Even as we enter the Final Saga, the lore deepens. 🔥🔥🔥
