Claude Code is scary good... not just for coding My Finder kept freezing after it grew to 8GB in size. I had no idea why. Restarting did not help. Turning off Spotlight indexing didn't help. So I turned to Claude Code... and ~10 iterations+30 minutes later it found the issue:
This kind of debugging simply did not exist before an AI agent like Claude Code (and similar ones) It's a brand new capability... and if you can do this, what else can you do? Just food for thought how good these tools are getting, quickly
Ah, a common misconception that you need to "hand over the keys" to the LLM I don't do this You can decide IF you want to do it! Else you need to confirm all commands... which I did! Claude Code has a well-built permissions system https://x.com/_BASSEM1/status/1972040085337190878

It probably just scraped this from Stack Exchange or Reddit. It’s a nice search and summary engine. It’s not natively intelligent, but it can copy intelligent people sometimes.

I mean turning off displaying the files is fixing the symptoms but not the issue. I'm curious if you could find why it was causing this? Too many files, corrupted files?
Probably too many files… I take screenshots frequently and never deleted them for years ha Then again I don’t understand how this would cause issues… surely drawing icons would happen with virtualisation and not drawing an actual icon for each file that’s not on a screen! Weird

But did you (or it) solve the real problem in the end? Why was the desktop misbehaving, were you able to identify and remove files that caused it?

Sorry but was it a corrupt desktop item or an Apple desktop bug causing the desktop rendering unusable?

I always turn off desktop icons. Almost never use my computer without some window open and never see the desktop.
